The Power of Regular Monthly Giving: What 500 TRY Can Change in a Year

One-off donations made during campaign periods are very valuable to foundations; but a scholarship has to be paid over nine months, not just in the first. That is why regular donors are the backbone of our work.

Why does continuity matter?

Starting a high school student's scholarship in September and stopping it in December is no different from pushing them to leave school. When we can predict regular giving income in advance, we can promise our scholars 10 months of payments, plan laboratory installations for village schools and act immediately in emergencies. Regular donors make up about 38% of our income.

What does 500 TRY a month achieve?

An annual donation of 6,000 TRY equals one of the following:

• About 1.7 months of a high school student's scholarship (3,500 TRY a month)
• Food parcels for four families for a month (1,250 TRY each) plus an extra 1,000 TRY
• Annual stationery sets for nine village school students (650 TRY each) plus an extra 150 TRY
• About 3% of a water well (2,000 TRY per share, three shares a year)

There is a tax advantage too

Income tax payers may deduct the total of their donations in the year from declared income within the limits set by law. As well as issuing an e-receipt for every payment, we send a year-end summary of all your donations. Flexible and secure

You can stop, increase or reduce regular giving at any time with an email or a phone call. Your card details are stored by the payment institution and not on foundation systems.

On the Regular Monthly Giving page you can choose Light Friend (250 TRY), Scholarship Friend (500 TRY), Well Friend (1,000 TRY) or a free amount. An amount that looks small can, after twelve months, change how a child's year turns out.

What we have learnt from our regular donors

In our annual survey of regular donors, 82% of respondents named regular updates as the most important reason for continuing to give. That is why we send a short progress newsletter every three months and share thank-you letters from our scholars with donors once a year. You do not need a large budget to become a regular donor: you can start with 100 TRY a month and raise the amount when your circumstances allow.
