Food and Basic Needs

Monthly food parcels for families

Food and Basic Needs

A 1,250 TRY parcel meets a family's staple food needs for a month; deliveries peak in Ramadan and winter.

1,250 TRY per parcel

The Food and Basic Needs programme was designed to reduce food insecurity in the homes of our scholars and neighbouring families. A hungry child finds it hard to learn, so we see food aid as part of our education work.

Parcel contents

The standard 1,250 TRY parcel is meant to cover a family of four for a month:

  • Flour 10 kg, rice 5 kg, bulgur 3 kg, pasta 4 kg
  • Lentils 2 kg, dried beans 2 kg, chickpeas 1 kg
  • Sunflower oil 5 L, tomato paste 1 kg, sugar 5 kg, tea 1 kg, salt
  • Milk and baby formula supplements for families with young children

How is distribution done?

Parcels are delivered with dignity and without photographs after household visits based on village headman and representation office lists. Our volunteers pack parcels at the warehouse on packing days, and each family benefits from the same campaign only once per period.

In the Ramadan and winter campaigns we have delivered more than 186,000 parcels in total. Hygiene packs, winter coats and shoes are our second-priority basic-need items.

Scope of service

  • A month's needs for a family of four
  • Needs verified by household visit
  • Dignified delivery without photographs
  • Hygiene packs and winter clothing
